MLA annual general meeting and producer forum 2011


The MLA annual general meeting was held on Thursday 17 November 2011 at the Longreach Civic and Cultural Centre, Longreach, Queensland, commencing at 2.00 pm.

The business of the AGM included:

  • receiving MLA's financial statements, directors' report and audit report for the year ended 30 June 2011
  • considering the election of three directors to the Board
  • considering any resolutions proposed by members of MLA or the company
  • considering the election of member representatives to the Selection Committee

The proceedings of the AGM also included addresses by the MLA Chairman Don Heatley and Managing Director Scott Hansen. Members were also invited to ask questions and comments from the floor or submit questions on notice ahead of the meeting.

All members were entitled to one vote at the AGM. Members who submitted their 2010-11 Levies Notice to MLA by 5 October 2011 had their voting entitlement calculated in accordance with MLA's constitution.

The results of the voting were:

  • Michele Allan, Geoff Maynard and Rodney Watt were elected as MLA Board Directors with 82.65%, 89.69% and 85.35% of votes cast respectively
  • Ian McCamley, Ben Hooper and Warren Barnett were elected as member representatives of the Selection Committee with votes of 91.17%, 92% and 96.65% of the cattle producer members, sheep producer members and lot feeer members respectively
  • A special resolution from a group of members to wind up MLA was rejected by 89.61% of votes cast

MLA producer forum

On the morning of the AGM, a forum was held to give red meat producers the opportunity to hear from key MLA managers about the highlights, outcomes and future direction of MLA's marketing and research and development programs. Those attending also had the opportunity to ask questions about MLA's marketing and R&D programs.

Red meat industry policy forum

After the producer forum and before the AGM, the Red Meat Advisory Council (RMAC) chaired a public forum for members of peak industry councils to discuss important policy issues affecting the profitability and sustainability of livestock businesses with their representative bodies.
