Middle East and Africa
Australia's livestock export industry is committed to working with the many cultures across the Middle East to implement programs that improve the welfare of Australian animals exported to the region. This is achieved by providing training and education to stockmen, veterinarians and livestock handlers.
Improvements to infrastructure to ensure Australian animals are well looked after during local transport, in feedlots and marketplaces are also part of the program.
Asia Pacific
The Australian livestock export industry provides animal welfare programs and support to Asian markets. These include animal handling workshops, training and education, retailer programs, in-market beef consumer promotions, infrastructure improvements, nutrition and livestock management advice, and breeding expertise.
Industry capabilities and LiveCorp services
The Australian livestock export industry operates under stringent government regulation. The Livestock Export Program has dedicated resources to assist industry meet the regulatory requirements and improve efficiencies in its ability to supply livestock to overseas countries.
Research & development
The Livestock Export Program maintains a strong commitment to research and implementing outcomes that improve animal welfare. The program aims for excellence in animal welfare and management throughout the supply chain. It is important that all industry standards are founded on rigorous scientific evidence. Research and development is funded through MLA and LiveCorp and is matched with government contributions.
Communicating with the Australian community
It is important that Australia's livestock export industry continues to educate and build relationships with both the Australian community and industry stakeholders.
The industry must engage with metropolitan communities that have little knowledge or understanding of the livestock export industry, as well as promote the industry's standards and commitment to animal welfare, training and education programs, and the positive outcomes the industry provides to Australian livestock exported overseas.
