Each year MLA makes available a number of awards, tenable at both Australian and overseas universities or institutions, for postgraduate study. The awards aim to facilitate research and training in areas of practical value to the Australian beef, sheepmeat and goatmeat industries.
A number of different awards are available:
- MLA Studentships - postgraduate Diploma or Masters courses, maximum duration two years.
- MLA Junior Research Fellowships - postgraduate degree at PhD or equivalent level, maximum duration three years.
- MLA Study Awards - sabbatical type training for established professionals, maximum duration one year.
In October/November each year, MLA invites applications for these Postgraduate Scholarships and Study Awards. At this time, priority topics relevant to the red meat industries will be identified.

MLA annually invites applications for Fellowship Awards tenable at Australian research institutions. The Fellowship aims to support the development of world class livestock scientists by facilitating research and development in areas of practical value to the Australian beef, sheepmeat and goatmeat industries. Research outcomes must apply directly to these goals.
