What is EDGEnetwork?
The EDGEnetwork is a range of practical workshop sessions and learning opportunities which help you gain knowledge and develop skills to improve your livestock enterprises.
You will expand your current expertise and learn new skills, be motivated by other producers and access fresh information to innovate your enterprises so you can make future decisions with confidence.
Through the EDGEnetwork you'll access the latest information, including research funded by producers through Meat & Livestock Australia.
You'll gain the best of group and individual learning by working in small groups that enable you to receive personalised service and focus on the specifics of your business.
The EDGEnetwork workshops have been developed by industry specialists and tested by producers Australia-wide to guarantee their quality and relevance.
The EDGEnetwork is an education and information initiative of Meat & Livestock Australia designed to benefit livestock producers and the wider industry. The aim is to drive industry development by providing producers with the best available information.
How your business benefits
Profitability is a challenge for livestock enterprises, yet managers who are measuring their performance, building a plan and developing their business skills currently have an edge that is ensuring their future in the industry.
The EDGEnetwork gives you this opportunity through practical workshops, farm walks, group discussion and projects.
Developing business skills
Your entire farm business will benefit from an investment in learning. By developing business skills you will:
- Make better decisions
- Gain greater control
- Understand how to achieve profit
You take charge of your learning program by selecting the skills and support your business needs so you can measure the impact on your farm and enjoy the results.
You will map your learning journey through the EDGEnetwork to build your skills in a logical program. Each session works towards an overall plan for your business.
Achieving best practice
The EDGEnetwork is developing a national data centre that will allow you to confidentially record, share and access information to compare your individual business performance with others.
Benchmarking on a local, regional and national level will generate useful information, including livestock and pasture production, marketing processes and labour management. This information will help you plan your business so you can map your progress and the impact on your bottom line.
Family members and employees will benefit from your involvement in the EDGEnetwork. All members of the farm business can take part in workshops and activities.
What's on offer?
The EDGEnetwork program offers workshops ranging across key areas including business, marketing, natural resource management, pasture and livestock management. Each workshop builds towards a whole farm business plan. The workshops on offer are mapped out for you at the first planning workshop and your group selects the topics that will make the biggest difference to your business.
New resources will be developed in time to meet the needs of producer groups. Learning areas still to be developed include quality assurance and natural resource management.
EDGEnetwork workshops are recognised by the education sector and you may decide to work towards a tertiary qualification.
How do I get started?
The EDGEnetwork is being established region by region across Australia based on local interest. You need to register your interest early so we can plan the program in your area.
The program is delivered through groups so you can involve an existing group, encourage others to form a new group, or you may wish to join a different group to access new ideas.
Contact the EDGEnetwork national coordinator. If you are part of a producer group, a short presentation to introduce your group to EDGEnetwork can be arranged. The presentation will provide detailed information on the workshops and give members of your group the opportunity to enrol.
The EDGEnetwork concept is jointly owned by Meat & Livestock Australia and the Department of Primary Industries, Victoria.
