Numbers improved at Armidale with yearlings prominent. Yearling heifers to restock were up to 20¢ dearer on 227¢, while the pens to feed were 7¢ higher on 193¢/kg. Yearling heifers were mainly 4¢ lower on 189¢ and the few grown steers averaged 180¢/kg. Heavy cow prices lifted 4¢ - to 152¢/kg.
Supply was steady at Dubbo and quality was marginally lower. Medium feeder steers were stable on 218¢ and heavier pens mainly sold from 192¢ to 196¢/kg. Yearling heifers to feed were 5¢ cheaper on 194¢ and the pens to the trade settled around 191¢/kg. Bullocks were in solid numbers and generally sold at 183¢, while heavy cows finished slightly cheaper on 152¢/kg.
Throughput fell at Bairnsdale with fewer young cattle available to the usual buyers. Heavy yearling steer prices were slightly dearer on 189¢ and yearling heifers mainly sold around 185¢/kg. Heavy grown steers were stable on 179¢ and heavy beef cows were stable on 136¢/kg.
After Thursday’s markets the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) was 1.5¢ lower than last week on 393¢/kg cwt. The trade steer indicator was 2¢ higher on 208¢ and feeder steers were 1¢ dearer on 214¢/kg lwt. Heavy steer prices fell 1¢ - to 182¢ and medium cows finished firm on 144¢/kg lwt.
Lamb supply dipped at Wagga and quality improved with a large portion of heavy yarded. Trade lambs ranged from $94 to $125/head or 470c to 480c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs topped at $150/head. Medium weight Merino ranged $66 to 92 with the heavy weights reaching $118/head.
At the conclusion of Thursday’s market the eastern states restocker lamb indicator settled on 464¢/kg cwt. Merino lambs and light lambs averaged 438¢ and 458¢/kg cwt respectively. Trade lambs settled at 468¢ with heavy lambs at 450¢/kg cwt. The mutton indicator settled on 276¢/kg cwt.
