Scone

03 February 2012

With rain forecast, and the potential for flooding after the sale on Tuesday, the size of the yarding at Scone declined for the third consecutive week to 1,181 head. Young cattle, and in particular heifers, were again in the largest numbers.

Quality remained mixed, with a few supplementary fed lots scattered throughout. Feeders and restockers were well catered for. The regular field of buyers was present, with young cattle selling at or above the cheaper prices of last week. There was extra competition on the reduced supply of export categories. This assisted grown steer and cow prices to increase 2¢ to 5¢/kg lwt.
