US market steady
03 February 2012
Prices for imported Australian beef in the US were largely steady this week, sustaining the near all-time high returns in US¢/lb terms. However, the stronger A$ this week, hitting 107US¢, saw indicative returns to Australian exporters decline 4.7¢ on last week, to 394.7A¢/kg cwt – taking the fall to over 11¢ since the start of 2012.
While overall beef demand in the US markets remains tentative, the latest results from the Restaurant Performance Index showed a jump in December to over 100 points for the current situation – its highest level in over three years (Steiner consulting).
