Middle East and Northern Africa
The Middle East and Northern Africa region is a long-standing and vital market for the Australian red meat industry. Strong economic growth in the region, combined with traditional preferences for sheepmeat and a growing appetite for beef, have seen Australian shipments to MENA region grow significantly in recent years.
Australian red meat exports to the MENA region totalled 135,312 tonnes swt in 2012. This was a 23% increase on 2011 shipments, and 32% above the five year average for Australian red meat exports to MENA.
The MLA MENA office is based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and has responsibility for 44 countries across the Middle East and North Africa. The MLA MENA office focuses on marketing activities (both trade and retail focused), market access activities and market development.
