Sheepmeat
Australian sheepmeat export volumes in the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) region maintained the growth of the past four years, and surpassed the records of 2008. Lamb exports during 2009 were up 27.5% to 39,119 tonnes swt year-on-year; mutton fell 1% to 53,872 tonnes swt in 2009; and sheepmeat offal increased 15.4% to reach 11,752 tonnes in 2009.
Export statistics
- The latest export statistics reveal that Australia exported 1,921 tonnes of lamb to the Middle East/North Africa region in February 2010, 23% lower year-on-year.
- In the calendar year to February, lamb exports totalled 3,810 tonnes, 18% lower than a year ago.
- The latest export statistics reveal that Australia exported 5,073 tonnes of mutton to the Middle East/North Africa region in February 2010, 7% higher year-on-year.
- In the calendar year to February, mutton exports totalled 9,464 tonnes, 11% higher than a year ago.
