Australian beef exports to the US in 2013 decreased 5% on the 2012 total, to 212,703 tonnes swt. So far in 2014, beef exports have increased substantially on 2013, with a very large decline in the production of US domestic beef (especially lean beef) and greater availability of Australian beef due to very high cattle slaughter.
The US is Australia's largest lamb export market (in terms of volume and value), with shipments in 2013 reaching 39,180 tonnes swt, valued at A$350 million FOB. Chilled lamb makes up a large proportion of Australian lamb sent to the US, with a focus of the trade being the US retail sector.
