SE Asia & Greater China
The South-East Asia and Greater China region (comprising Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan) is important to Australian red meat exporters.
In 2010, 14% of total Australian beef exports and 23% of total lamb exports were shipped to this region.
Of the total Australian mutton exports, 25% headed to South-East Asia and Greater China. Offal also forms an important component of the trade to the region. In 2010, offal exports to South-East Asia and Greater China accounted for 38% of Australia's total offal exports.
MLA aims to grow demand in the region by conducting promotional activities and working with and supporting exporters and importers of Australian red meat. MLA recognises the importance of building and maintaining relationships and has 'on-the-ground' representatives throughout the region.
