Producer demonstration sites
MLA's Producer Demonstration Sites (PDS) program supports producer groups and extension staff to demonstrate, develop and adopt MLA research findings and technologies as well as seek research and development solutions to on-farm problems.
Funding grants of up to $20,000 per annum for up to three years are available to groups of producers who wish to undertake investigations to generate new, or validate existing, research and development knowledge. These grants are specifically aimed at supporting producers advance the sustainable and profitable production of red meat.
This program provides an important vehicle for shared learning and extension through the use of PDS that help producers better understand:
- What research is being conducted on-farm
- How the research is being applied on-farm
- How they can apply the research outcomes in their own enterprises
Producer Demonstration Site categories
PDS support producer groups in:
- Northern beef production systems
- Southern beef production systems
- Lamb and sheepmeat production systems
- Goat production systems
Through these sites, producers are provided with a practical, hands on environment that enables them to share experiences and participate in research into:
The PDS program, which incorporates improved research management and reporting components, replaces the Producer Initiated Research and Development (PIRD) program.
