MLA is seeking applications from individuals, organisations or project teams with the expertise required to undertake one or more of the following projects:

Expressions of Interest - Farming Systems R&D and Modelling for the Southern Feedbase

MLA has launched a major effort to implement the Feedbase R&D Plan, across pasture breeding & evaluation, soil, water, nutrient, animal management. The primary objective of this project is to determine the key production systems questions that are being or are likely to be posed in the suite of projects involved in the rollout of the Feedbase R&D Plan and then to:
i. determine the capacity of current modelling tools to answer these questions and any model development/model user needs;
ii. determine if there is a requirement for systems level R&D and/or farm scale monitoring to complement the range of component research projects being established and the proposed modeling activities

Participatory R&D Sites for the Southern Feedbase Program

The primary strategy for engaging leading producers into the R&D in the southern feedbase program is through participatory R&D - the establishment of on-farm sites that trial, test or extend what is happening at the core research sites. These producer sites must make a significant contribution to the R&D. The challenge is to take the generalised concept (of producer groups linking directly into the feedbase R&D projects in ways that engage leading producers into participatory R&D) and develop the practical details needed to start implementing the process across all the major R&D projects within the southern feedbase program.
