What’s on where and when?

Issue 12: July 2008

Several recent events have again served to demonstrate the enthusiasm and level of interest in the goat industry. The goat industry forum at Wangaratta, co-sponsored by Victorian Farmers’ Federation, New South Wales Farmers’ Association and MLA attracted over 120 people while a goat production day organised by the North West Goat Producers’ Association at Murrurundi demonstrated what producers can do if they work together.

Across the border in Queensland, producers collectively running over 100,000 goats welcomed the opportunity to meet other producers and hear from industry experts at a Queensland Department of Primary Industries (QDPI) goat industry forum near Corfield, north of Barcaldine. Following the success of this event and due to the changing face of livestock production in central Queensland with declining sheep numbers, QDPI will be organising two more events in the Longreach and Charleville districts later in the year. For further details contact Morgan Gronold, QDPI, on Morgan.Gronold@dpi.qld.gov.au or 07 4651 1087.

Events in Western Australia are being planned by the Western Australia Goat Meat Industry Council and details are available from the Pastoralists and Graziers’ Association (PGA). One of these events is scheduled for Darkin on 5 November while another event is expected to be held in a pastoral area. Contact Edgar Richardson on 0409 945 430.

Last but not least, the goat industry is to feature as part of a Meat Profit Day to be held on 12 November at Orange, NSW. This event is being run in conjunction with the MLA AGM on the 13th and will feature a special session dedicated to the goat industry.
