AUS-MEAT takes over reins of LPA
After successfully implementing and then building the Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) program to now include over 194,000 livestock producers, Meat & Livestock Australia handed over the management of the program to AUS-MEAT on 1 July 2008.
The management of LPA, which includes LPA database management, the printing and distribution of LPA NVDs and the administration of LPA rules and standards, was transferred to AUS-MEAT on 1 July. MLA will maintain responsibility for LPA NVD content, as well as developing and instigating LPA communication initiatives.

Livestock Production Assurance
Helping Australia lead the way in on-farm food safety, Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) is a new on-farm food safety certification program designed to help the red meat industry strengthen the food safety systems currently in place.
National Vendor Declarations
The National Vendor Declaration (NVD) is the key tool used by producers to declare valuable information about the food safety status of the livestock being sold in Australia.
Electronic Declaration Program
LQS provides the means to download software programs that provide electronic versions of the LPA NVD/Waybill, either blank emergency NVD/Waybills (Emergency NVD Program) or direct Electronic NVD/Waybills that can be printed as well as sent electronically to purchasers of livestock (e-DEC™).
Livestock Fodder Declarations
A completed commodity vendor declaration (CVD) or By-Product Vendor Declaration (BVD) should be obtained from the supplier of livestock fodder when purchasing, which indicates the chemicals the material had been exposed to, or that there has been no chemical exposure.
Livestock Integrity
The Livestock Integrity (LI) program is MLA’s involvement in issues dealing with livestock residues, livestock feeding, and livestock disease (including ESIs and WHPs).
