NVD Information Recording Systems

Tools are available to help those industry sectors, such as saleyards and stock agents, that have to manage large amounts of LPA NVD/Waybill information on a daily basis.

These tools will make it easier to transcribe information from the LPA NVD/Waybill to documents such as pre-sale catalogues and post-sale summaries – vital documents in the provision of food safety information on livestock bought and sold every day in Australia.

NVD information recording systems include LPA NVD/Waybill scanning and LPA NVD/Waybill bar-coding.

LPA NVD/Waybill scanning

The LPA NVD/Waybill scanning program is a hardware/software solution for companies receiving large amounts of LPA NVD/Waybills and utilising information to create documentation such pre-sale catalogues (at saleyards) or other uses.

The system uses TELEform software that allows it to utilise the superior recognition of TELEforms powerful form and document processing capabilities. It is a state of the art voting system that leverages numerous machine, hand-print and barcode reading engines. It is these engines which will read and recognise the data off NVds.

TELEform will capture both the hand and machine printed data, information from the tick boxes along with any barcodes.

LPA NVD/Waybill bar-coding

Bar codes have been introduce on to the eDEC NVD/Waybills, Emergency LPA NVD/Waybills and printed LPA NVD/Waybills. The reason that the bar codes have been added is to improve speed and accuracy in transferring information from the LPA NVD/Waybills to computer systems such as those at sales yards, feedlots and abattoirs.

The bar codes that are on the LPA NVD/Waybills are an ISO/ IEC 15417:2000 Standard referred to as CODE128 symbology. The ISO CODE128 symbology is the highest reliability bar code format for printing on forms that is readily available.

The size is to be at least 13mm tall and magnification is 100%.

An example of a bar code is NA123456001234.

This LPA NVD/Waybill bar code is made up of:

  1. NA123456: this is the PIC for the property
  2. 001234: this is the serial number for the LPA NVD/Waybill

The reasons to use ISO CODE128 are:

  1. It is a bar code format with an in built check digit which means the bar code either scans with the correct result or does not scan. Other bar code format can give incorrect data which scanned.
  2. The size of the bar code is very small for the amount of data that is stored.
  3. All current model bar code scanners support CODE 128 bar codes.
  4. The format is the chosen format for bar code for all global trade items, pallet, etc. eg it is the most commonly used format in the world.
