Recording cattle movements is mandatory in Australia. This may be done by uploading information to the NLIS Database directly or via a commercial software package.

How to participate

  • For information on the rules and regulations governing NLIS in your state or territory, contact your local State Department of Industry or Agriculture
  • As a processor, your primary responsibility regarding the NLIS database is reading and recording cattle transactions that occur at your processing plant.
  • Abattoirs processing for the EU are also required to read all EU consignments and upload that data to the NLIS Database.

Using the NLIS Database

  • Processors and abattoirs can interact with the NLIS database through EasyCheck software.
  • EasyCheck is a computer application used by abattoirs across Australia to maintain accurate records for NLIS. It is an initiative of Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) and is free to download and use.
