Using the NLIS database
MLA encourages producers to have an NLIS database account so they can record their own cattle transfers and run reports. From 1 January 2009, a fee will be charged to process cattle transfers submitted on paper forms. The current Form A will not be accepted after that date. New forms will be available for purchase from the NLIS Helpdesk.
Producers
There are several ways to use the NLIS database:
- Create a free online account and record cattle transfers on the database yourself.
- Authorise a Third Party (your agent) to access the database on your behalf. Fill out an Access Authority Form (PDF, 37KB) to allow your agent access.
- Download the NLIS Express software program to your Bluetooth mobile phone. With a mobile and a wireless reader, you can transfer cattle without a computer.
- Download and print the appropriate form, then fax or post completed forms to MLA in the timeframe specified by NLIS regulations for your state or territory:
-
Form A (PDF, 48KB) – notify livestock movements to other properties, including agistment and sale of a property (maximum 20 head)
-
Form B (PDF, 47KB) – notify breeding bulls on an EU property
-
Form C (PDF, 48KB) – notify damaged or lost used tags
-
Form D (PDF, 49KB) – notify death of an animal
-
Form N (PDF, 40KB) – request NLIS Express account
Fax completed forms to (02) 9463-9136 or post to:
NLIS Helpdesk, Meat & Livestock Australia Limited Locked Bag 991, North Sydney NSW 2059
Saleyards that do not have saleyard software can create a free online account to record transactions directly on NLIS. Although most saleyard operators use saleyard software to interact with NLIS, they still need a database account.
- Create a free online account on the NLIS database, or
- Use MLA's free software package, EasyCheck
