BeefPlan

BeefPlan is a non-traditional approach to learning. Groups of like-minded beef producers, work together as a management team to focus on property management. Importantly the learning agenda is set and controlled by the group.

MLA is progressively supporting beef producer groups in Queensland, the Northern Territory and the north of Western Australia to improve their business profitability and sustainability.

New groups have been formed and MLA is seeking producer interest in continuing to form BeefPlan groups.

Each group of producers forms a management team to learn from each other, from consultants, advisors and other specialists of their choosing. On-property and off-property management meetings are crucial to facilitate this form of learning. The approach is unique to northern Australia.

The groups are genuinely producer driven and aim to look at the whole beef business and not single issues of management.

Project results

The project delivers outcomes, which empowers producers to learn more effectively and bring about change. BeefPlan is assisting producers to take ownership of solutions and plan for the future.

BeefPlan is aimed at improving beef production systems across the production, economic, environmental and social dimensions, by giving responsibility for this improvement to producers themselves.

Participants have agreed that they have enjoyed substantial benefits, both personally and for their businesses from the BeefPlan process. MLA now offers this process to other producers as an opportunity for learning that will benefit individual businesses and the industry.

Is BeefPlan for you?

Beefplan requires:

  • A partnership with MLA;
  • A commitment to a group;
  • A positive attitude;
  • A proactive stance;
  • A preparedness to work with others.

Do you believe:

  • That producers can influence the future of the industry?
  • That producers know what is relevant and best for their businesses?
  • That true learning results from the initiative of the learner?
  • Would improved communication skills help your business to prosper?
  • Do you want to access the latest information on production, fertility and herd management?
  • Would you like to use a professional benchmarking tool in your business, to keep good records and understand how to use them in planning and decision-making?

These are the areas in which BeefPlan has helped participants.

Easily the biggest results from BeefPlan are in personal development and increased confidence. BeefPlan is empowering producers to be in control of their futures, to improve their property management and to effect change in the industry.
