Major projects of the Southern Beef program include More Beef from Pastures and Grain & Graze.
More Beef from Pastures encourages integrated management to sustainably produce more beef through planning, better use of pastures, genetics, animal husbandry and grazing.
The Grain & Graze project helps mixed farming enterprises increase production of crops, pastures and animals while maintaining or enhancing biodiversity and the catchment resources that sustain them.
The Southern Beef program also conducts research in the areas of growth in genetic evaluation and genetic progress of cattle, gene markers for marbling and tenderness in beef and improved tests for net feed efficiency of cattle. Nationally available EDGEnetwork® courses for producers are continually updated with the program’s latest R&D results.
