Weaner Management
Maximising weaner throughput is important for cattle and sheep enterprises as increasing the number of cattle and sheep sold each year has a major impact on the profitability of enterprises. Sales include stock bred on the property, cull animals and any purchased trading stock.
Increasing throughput will in most cases increase profit. The main components of weaner throughput are the stocking rate, the number of weaners produced and the total saleable kilograms of product from the enterprise.
Culling policy can also impact significantly on financial returns, as it affects the proportions of young and old stock sold out of the flock or herd.
