1. Genetics wiping out worms
Sheep producers have used the power of genetics to fight worms through the introduction of the Worm Egg Count (WEC) ASBV. Delivered through LAMBPLAN,  the WEC ASBV aims to reduce drenching costs, stock losses and chemical use associated with internal parasite control.

The results of the five-year $2.1 million Red Meat Targets program in Tasmania have delivered information that can help red meat producers across southern Australia boost production and profits.

3. Stimulating US appetite for lamb
Developments in the sheepmeat industry have helped grow Australia's prime lamb export volumes from 16% of production in 1990-91 to 44% two decades later. Gain an insight into the existing and future opportunities for Australian lamb in the US.

5. Portable pregnancy scanning
A new, simple piece of technology has been developed to revolutionise the way pregnancy scanning in achieved in cattle. The hand-held pregnancy scanner can be used by anyone, is safer and does not require a vet to operate.

 

6. What Aussies are eating for dinner
MLA recently conducted consumer research to determine the eating habits of Australians. The study titled 'Last Night's Dinner' found the most popular dish on Australian dinner tables was steak and vegetables. In addition to this five out of the top ten dishes were beef and lamb.

8. Experts discuss 'green' meat
A panel of leading environmentalists and scientists met in Sydney to kick off a series of events discussing the sustainable production of red meat. The aim of these sessions is to get youth and urban media thinking about the topic and increase their understanding of the issue.

9. Kekovich unites the world with lamb

Sam Kekovich is back with his annual address to the nation. However, this year he is taking his cause, fighting 'unAustralianism',  global and addressing the United Nations. Sam is urging the world to unite over lamb and claim January 26 International Australia Day.
