Demand improving for Australian beef in Japan
9/04/2009
The trade reported active trading of Australian frozen beef in the Japanese wholesale market this week, and prices are expected to stay firm due to strong seasonal demand, combined with the lower shipment volumes from Australia during March. Items such as 85CL and chuck rolls were particularly in high demand this week. Retail sales of Australian beef are also gradually improving, according to trade sources. Special retail packs, such as Australian striploin steak sets for families, started to appear on supermarket shelves as a part of ongoing ‘yen appreciation’ sales. Export prices were not available this week, due to the shortened week.
