Zensho closes Wendy’s burger chain in Japan

Australian beef exports to Japan continued this week, but on a much smaller scale, due to meat packing operations year-end closures. Export prices were not quoted due to limited trading. In the Japanese foodservice sector, Zensho group announced it will not renew its contract with Wendy’s/Arby’s Group for Wendy’s hamburger chain in Japan, ending its operation of 71 outlets at the end of this year. Zensho – a major user of Australian beef in Japan – is expected to focus on its gyudon (beef rice bowl) business in the New Year.
