Every Auctions Plus sale a highlight

5/03/2002

At electronic livestock auctions last week, AuctionsPlus said throughput improved in a week where almost every sale was classed in the highlight category.

About 1,550 wethers, off shears, from the Sanderson Family Trust at Tambo in Queensland sold to a Riverina buyer for $48.

In NSW, 107 Angus cows and calves from Merriwa trended from $800 to $1,080, and AuctionsPlus said this was an outstanding sale given that the cows were only very poor and weighed 335 kilograms.

There still appeared to be a lot of pressure in the live export trade, particularly sheep export, and AuctionsPlus said it was really a matter of scratching your head to imagine where these would come from.

There were 46,151 sheep and lambs, and 3,033 cattle offered last week.

At the Hamilton live cattle market in Victoria on Friday, Derek Morse of the Hamilton Stock Agents Association said it was a similar yarding to the previous week, with values for all classes improving 5-10¢/kg lw.

Japanese export bullocks sold from 162¢ to 171¢, and Korean-type cattle ranged from 160¢ to 176¢/kg lw.

Mr Morse said that there were less fat and over-fat beef cows yarded, and prices improved $25 to $40/head.

There was a good run of ox, with prices 5-8¢ dearer, while the quality yarding of milk and grass-fed young cattle improved 5-10¢/kg lw.

There were 948 head yarded.
