MLA's R&D
Research and development is a core activity for MLA, both on and off-farm. MLA’s R&D projects and initiatives share the common goal of achieving competitive advantage for the red meat industry by improving productivity and profitability and ensuring sustainability.
Key R&D areas include:
- Genetics and genomics - MLA’s R&D activities start at the very heart of the red meat industry, with the genes that determine the key characteristics of Australia’s herd and flock.
- Protecting the health and welfare of animals - Maintaining the health status and welfare standards of the animals in Australia’s red meat industry is a priority and is also vital to ensuring continuing international market access for our beef and sheepmeats.
- Protecting our environment - Protecting the environment is a key responsibility for the red meat industry and a vital part of maintaining its ongoing sustainability.
