North America is one of Australia's largest and most valuable export regions for red meat, with substantial volumes of beef, lamb, mutton and goat meat exported to Canada, Mexico and the United States each year.
Monthly export volumes - May 2016

- Australian red meat exports to the US
Australia enjoys preferred import access into the US market for both beef and lamb. However technical access issues remain that require industry vigilance and resolution. Opportunities for improvements in access to Canada (beef), and Mexico (beef and lamb) exist and are strong priorities for industry and government.
A key objective is to ensure there is strong recognition of Australia's food safety and quality systems and sustainability credentials.
In 2016, Australia has access to a tariff-free beef quota of 418,214 tonnes into the US, and 35,000 tonnes into Canada.
