Events & workshops
MLA runs a broad range of events and workshops designed to deliver the practical outcomes of R&D activities. All of these events aim to increase the confidence, knowledge and skills of people involved in the red meat industry.
MLA also supports a range of industry events and activities. If you have a red meat industry event coming up, send the details using the event form and it will be included in the events listing on the website.
MLA's events and workshops include:
Meat Profit Days
Meat Profit Days (MPDs) are a combination of a conference and trade show and are held twice a year in different locations around Australia. The topics and speakers are selected by an organising committee of local producers and industry representatives to ensure the program is relevant to the region. MPDs provide attendees with the chance to discover the latest industry research, products and trends as well as offering a unique networking opportunity.
BeefUp forums
BeefUp forums are regularly held throughout northern Australia and are designed to give beef producers clear and practical information and tools they can put into practice in their business. Designed by local producers and industry, the presentations focus on the key profit drivers of beef businesses and sustainability practices that can make a real difference to a red meat business's bottom line.
More Beef from Pastures
Based on one of MLA's flagship publications, More Beef from Pastures: the Producers Manual, these events aim to provide beef producers in southern Australia with tools to help increase productivity while minimising risk in an ever-changing operating environment. Event topics address different aspects of production in a pasture-based beef enterprise including pasture growth and utilisation, genetics, stock control and market specifications.
Making More From Sheep
Based on the MLA and AWI flagship publication, Making More From Sheep - a producer's manual, the associated workshops provide sheep producers with information relating to sheepmeat and wool enterprises. This includes best practice procedures and tactics outlined in the manual including market focused production, natural resource management, soil health, genetics and animal health. Held nationally, these workshops are generally on-farm face to face events, with some workshops also held via webinar.
Going into Goats
Based on the MLA publication, Going into Goats - Profitable producers' best practical guide, the associated workshops explain the key principles for managing a profitable goat enterprise, which includes property planning, goat selection, husbandry and more.
EDGEnetwork
These workshops form part of the EDGEnetwork program, which is an education and information initiative for producers across Australia. The workshops focus on the key areas of business, marketing, natural resource management, pasture and livestock management, with each workshop building towards a whole farm business plan.
MLA Annual General Meeting
The AGM is held in November each year at a different location around Australia. Generally a producer forum or similar event is held in conjunction with the event.
Special forums
From time to time MLA partners with existing events to deliver producer information forums. These forums cover key topics of interest for the region and give locals the opportunity to hear from expert speakers in their own backyard.
