Lamb marking performance for ultrasound-scanned ewes in Australian sheep flocks

The purpose of this project was to collect data on the lambing performance (as measured by lamb marking rates) for ultrasound scanned ewes in a broad cross-section of Australian sheep flocks.

Key aspects of the project were:

  • Scanning of ewe flocks to identify empty and single/twin bearing ewes
  • Subsequent collection and collation of lamb marking data on scanned ewe mobs for calculation of lamb marking and mortality rates
  • Partial subsidisation of scanning costs for cooperating producers to encourage participation

The project aimed to collect data on approximately 60,000 -80,000 scanned ewes.
