MLA members: lodge your Levies Notice
28 July 2015
MLA members are being encouraged to secure their full voting entitlements for Meat & Livestock Australia’s (MLA) annual general meeting (AGM) by submitting their Levies Notice by post or online.
The Levies Notice pack has been mailed to all MLA members this month and must be completed and lodged by 1 October 2015.
MLA Managing Director Richard Norton said producers should make every effort to submit their Levies Notice which would secure their full voting entitlements at the AGM.
This year’s MLA AGM will be held on 10 November at the Mercure Hotel, Brisbane.
“MLA is the marketing, research and development body for Australia’s red meat industry with almost 50,000 members. It is a producer owned organisation and members should have every opportunity to be involved in how their levies are being invested - in marketing and research and development, and setting the future direction of MLA.
“Voting at MLA’s AGM is one very important way that producers can be directly involved and we want our members to have greater input into the company’s direction than ever before,” Mr Norton said.
At the AGM, members can vote on the appointment of MLA Directors and any resolutions put forward by the company or its members. Cattle producer members will also have the opportunity to elect an additional grassfed cattle representative to the Board Director Selection Committee.
Members who don’t submit their Levies Notice will automatically receive one vote for any MLA ballots.
This process is voluntary but by returning this notice or lodging online, members inform MLA of the amount of levies paid in the last financial year and will have their voting entitlement calculated in accordance with MLA's constitution.
MLA members who are unable to attend the AGM can still vote by proxy or attorney.
