Apply now! Leadership scholarship available

28 September 2016

Are you passionate about the future of the goat industry? Are you a leader committed to the prosperity of rural and regional Australia? Why not take the next step and further your leadership capacity by taking part in the next Australian Rural Leadership Program (ARLP)?

“Over the last months I have unexpectedly taken over running the family business. Because of the ARLP I am now much better placed to build teams, lead in uncertainty and reflect on my own performance. All with an amazing network behind me” said past graduate Jane Worner of Young NSW.

Chris Douglas of Werrimull, Victoria has also completed the course and said “I like to view leadership as I would a farming system – no single aspect of the farming system on its own is any more important than another, a new wheat variety alone will not mean that a farm is successful. However if it is combined with the right agronomy, rotation, sowing time, weed control, nutrition and financial management the farm will be successful. This applies directly to a ‘leadership system’ – communication on its own without critical thinking, personal awareness and ethical decision-making will not make a leader”.

The ARLP is designed for individuals who will lead rural, regional and remote Australia into the future. It offers a series of experiential sessions during which participants are immersed in diverse, effective leadership practices and perspectives. Through the program, participants increase their knowledge and understanding of major themes affecting regional Australia and contemporary issues both locally and internationally.

The ARLP involves up to 50 days of face-to-face contact spread over 15 months. Course 24 of the ARLP will take place between August 2017 and October 2018 and MLA and the Goat Industry Council of Australia (GICA) are pleased to announce a scholarship covering the majority of the course costs is available to a suitable goat industry candidate. Applications are now open and the recipient will be the best Australian goat producer candidate, determined after consideration of the applicants’ written applications.

ARLP alumni form a national network of well-informed and effective leaders with the capacity to bring economic, social and environmental benefits to industries and communities.
