Producer forums head west

02 July 2015

Producers in the Esperance region are invited to meet with MLA on 10 July to have a say on the future direction of how their levies are being invested.

MLA Managing Director Richard Norton has hosted a series of “Your Levy, Your Industry” forums this year to give producers an opportunity to meet with him and discuss firsthand their marketing and research and development priorities. MLA will provide an update of its regional consultation model, including how it will work for southern producers.

The Esperance meeting is from 10am - 2.30pm on Friday 10 July, at the Esperance Civic Centre, Council Place.

“We’re putting levy payers at the centre of everything we do, and hearing their feedback through grassroots consultation is critical so that we can ensure MLA is delivering long term value back to the farm gate," Richard said.

“We have carried out similar forums with producers in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and other parts of Western Australia, and received valuable feedback.

“I now look forward to speaking openly with producers in the Goldfields-Esperance area about the future direction of MLA.”

Also presenting will be Dr Alex Ball, MLA’s General Manager for Red Meat Innovation.

“We’ve seen positive R&D outcomes in the west such as improved MSA farm gate returns, increased productivity through adoption of genetics, enhanced animal nutrition through the EverGraze program, and better management of round worm through the development of the Barbervax vaccine," Alex said.

Coordinator of the West Australian Meat Research Council, Erin Gorter, will also attend to speak with producers about how they can be involved in setting WA's R&D priorities.

All producers are welcome to attend this free forum, where a barbecue lunch will be provided. Register here.
