Livestock Productivity Partnership Lead Coordinator Appointed

09 February 2018

The Livestock Productivity Partnership (LPP) has today announced the appointment of Dr Tom Davison as its Lead Coordinator.

As LPP Lead Coordinator, Dr Davison is tasked with driving the expansion of the partnership to broaden the benefits to be delivered to livestock producers.

The LPP is a five-year research and development partnership aimed at boosting livestock productivity and developing new R&D capacity, and is a joint initiative currently involving MLA Donor Company, NSW Department of Primary Industries, University of New England and CSIRO. The goal of the LPP is to contribute to a national increase in productivity improvement in the livestock industry from 1% to 2.5% per annum by developing regional and system-specific feedbase options, and new animal phenotyping and farm management tools, primarily for producers in NSW and southern/central Queensland.

Dr Davison has worked in research management for twenty years across Rural Research & Development Corporations, most recently with Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), where he managed large research projects in a portfolio covering feedbase, environment and climate.

In making the announcement, the LPP Management Committee said that Dr Davison’s extensive experience in managing applied livestock and pasture programs and a focus on collaboration made him well suited to the role.

“Dr Davison brings a strong technical background, a track record in building partnerships with red meat industry stakeholders and experience in developing adoption programs. He will be a valuable asset to the partnership and will help develop a strong portfolio of research projects and ensure the implementation of effective adoption strategies.”

Dr Davison is based at University of New England in Armidale and in Brisbane.

Organisations interested in co-investing to meet the objectives of the partnership are invited to contact Dr Davison at tdaviso2@une.edu.au

The LPP is currently seeking expressions of interest for the position of Chair of the Livestock Productivity Partnership Management Committee. For more information visit careers at MLA.
