Goatmeat exports rise in October

Australian goatmeat exports registered considerable year-on-year growth in October, up 11%, to 3,297 tonnes swt – 8% higher than the five-year average for the month.  

Underpinning the overall rise in October, volumes to Australia’s largest goat export market, the US, surged 41% on year-ago levels, to 2,112 tonnes swt, while China recorded a near four-fold increase year-on-year, to 224 tonnes swt.   

For the year-to-date (January to October), however, Australian goatmeat shipments were back 15% on the corresponding period last year, at 24,374 tonnes swt.

Exports for the January to October period were lower across almost all markets compared to last year:

  • the US – 13,941 tonnes swt, down 9%
  • Canada – 1,301 tonnes swt, down 24%
  • the Caribbean – 1,833 tonnes swt, down 14%
  • China – 709 tonnes swt, down 7%
  • Taiwan – 3,052 tonnes swt, down 29%
  • Malaysia – 176 tonnes swt, down 67%
