Thursday daily cattle summary

Consignments reduced at Dalby to 2,044 head, due to isolated falls and more forecast. Quality varied and only a few bullocks were penned. All the regular buyers were in attendance, and the well-bred lines received the strongest demand.

  • Light weight C2 yearling steers to restockers were 8¢ lower on 354¢/kg
  • Heavy weight C2 yearling steers to feed lost 5¢ to average 316¢/kg
  • Light weight C2 yearling heifers to restockers slipped 5¢ to 317¢/kg
  • Medium weight C2 grown steers to feed lifted 21¢ to average 299¢/kg
  • Medium weight D3 cows to slaughter eased 2¢ to settle on 227¢/kg

Supply at Casino lifted to 1,783 head. The majority of vealers yarded were medium and heavy weights and with a full field of buyers in attendance, competition was strong.

  • Light weight C2 vealer steers to restockers were 1¢ higher on 330¢/kg
  • Light weight C2 vealer heifers to slaughter were 1¢ dearer on 313¢/kg
  • Most heavy weight yearling steers ranged from 260¢ to 326¢/kg
  • Medium weight D3 cows to slaughter slipped 2¢ to settle on 222¢/kg

Yardings reduced at Warrnambool, with 1,476 head supplied and not all buyers operated. Quality was not of the standard of the previous week.

  • Heavy weight C3 vealer heifers to slaughter were 18¢ dearer on 288¢/kg
  • There were not many yearling steers to quote, while heavy weight C3 yearling heifers to slaughter eased 18¢ to average 258¢/kg
  • Bullocks to slaughter ranged from 265¢ to 279¢/kg
  • Heavy weight D1 dairy cows lifted 7¢ to 173¢/kg

At the close of Wednesday’s markets:

  • The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) closed at 583.50¢/kg cwt
  • Trade steers averaged 315¢/kg lwt
  • Medium steers averaged 281¢/kg lwt
  • Heavy steers averaged 279¢/kg lwt
  • Medium cows averaged 215¢/kg lwt
  • Feeder steers averaged 313¢/kg lwt
