Thursday daily sheep summary

Lamb consignments at Horsham increased 82% week-on-week, to 5,850 head, with a large proportion consisting of new season lambs. All of the usual buying group operated and competed strongly. New season lamb quality was very good.

Sheep yardings more than doubled, to 6,400 head, and there were some excellent pens of heavy weight sheep on offer. Buyer competition was very strong.

  • New season light weight 3 score lambs averaged 594¢/kg cwt
  • New season trade weight 3 score lambs eased 15¢ on 583¢/kg cwt
  • New season heavy weight 4 score lambs averaged 625¢/kg cwt
  • New season extra heavy weight 4 score lambs jumped 30¢, on 630¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes fell 29¢ on 409¢/kg cwt

Lamb throughput at CTLX lifted 14%, to 4,200 head, with some well-conditioned new season lambs and trade weight old lambs on offer.

Sheep supply more than doubled, in a good quality yarding and most grades sold to a dearer trend.

  • New season trade weight 3 score lambs were 12¢ dearer, averaging 578¢/kg cwt
  • New season heavy weight 4 score lambs averaged 625¢/kg cwt
  • Old season light weight 2 score lambs averaged 574¢/kg cwt
  • Old season trade weight 3 score lambs jumped 53¢ on 550¢/kg cwt
  • Old season heavy weight 3 score lambs increased 36¢ on 591¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score Merino ewes averaged 394¢/kg cwt

At the close of Wednesday’s markets:

  • The eastern states restocker lamb indicator lifted 14¢, to 551¢/kg cwt
  • Merino lambs eased 2¢, on 543¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs were up 3¢, to 581¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs were up 1¢, to 598¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs were up 2¢, to 605¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator finished 1¢ cheaper, on 410¢/kg cwt
