Vic weekly sheep summary

Victorian lamb supply reached 34,163 head, up 56% week-on-week, with all MLA reported saleyards recording an increase.

  • Ballarat lamb numbers more than doubled, increasing by 155% to offer 7,660 head
  • Bendigo consignments totalled 17,233 head, up 49%
  • Hamilton throughput increased 6% to 1,597 head
  • Horsham yardings jumped 31% to 7,673 head

Light weight 2 score new season lambs to restockers sold from 454¢ to 648¢ and averaged 585¢, to be 4¢/kg cwt cheaper. Heavier light weight 3 score crossbreds to slaughter reached 617¢ and averaged 549¢, back 31¢/kg cwt. Light trade weight crossbred lambs to processors eased 52¢ to average 549¢, while heavier trade weights reached 581¢ and averaged 535¢, back 54¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 3 score crossbred lambs eased 46¢ to return 529¢/kg cwt.

Light weight old lambs returned 469¢ for 2 score Merino lambs, up 30¢, while crossbred lambs to processors were 22¢ easier on 509¢/kg cwt. Heavier light weight crossbred lambs to the trade slipped 62¢ to 505¢/kg cwt. Three score trade weight crossbred lambs were back 23¢ on 539¢ for lighter lambs, while heavier trade weights eased 42¢ to 510¢ for crossbred lambs and slipped 35¢ to 484¢/kg cwt for first cross lambs to processors.


Sheep consignments also swelled, with 25,341 head yarded across the state, up 17% week-on-week.

  • Bendigo consignments totalled 13,098 head, up 26%
  • Ballarat numbers also rose, up 36% to 5,495 head
  • Hamilton supply eased 4%, to 1,708 head
  • Horsham yarded 7% less sheep, at 5,040 head

Light weight 2 score Merino ewes were 20¢ easier on 359¢, while medium weights averaged 367¢, back 38¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 3 score first cross ewes were only slightly easier on 327¢/kg cwt.

Medium weight Merino wethers to restockers reached 419¢ and settled on 377¢ to be 23¢/kg cwt cheaper.
