Summary

To improve meat and dairy production by breeding improved cultivars of perennial ryegrass that are adapted to target areas of Australia.

To produce cultivar/s which have;

Project 1: improved winter growth;

Project 2: improved autumn growth and drought tolerance; and

Project 3: improved seasonal growth and late season growth.

Specific objectives By June 1998 to;

(i) to release one cultivar with improved winter growth (Project 1).

(ii) to release one cultivar with improved autumn growth and drought tolerance (Project 2).

(iii) to have at least one other synthetic with improved autumn growth and drought tolerance undergoing bulk-up (Project 2).

(iv) to have at least two synthetics with improved seasonal growth and late maturity undergoing bulk-up for release in 2000 (Project 3).
