Summary
Making More from Sheep is the sheep industry’s key extension mechanism to deliver research, development and learning opportunities to sheep producers. Making More from Sheep provides Australian lamb and wool producers with a best practice package of information and management tools to assist them achieve profitable and sustainable sheep production. Making more from Sheep is a joint initiative of MLA and Australian Wool Innovation.
Core toMaking More from Sheep is an eleven module manual that captures the experience of leading producers and technical specialists to identify the 3-5 major principles and procedures to optimise that area of the business - the 20% of decisions that have 80% of the impact on business profitability and controlling risk. The modules cover business and people development, marketing, pasture production and utilisation, reproduction, health and genetic improvement. Each module has extensive sign-posting to further more detailed information.
Making More from Sheep offers the opportunity for producers to engage in a range of ways to improve the performance of their business from a triple bottom line perspective.
This suite of projects has underpinned the development, upgrade and delivery of the Making More from Sheep manual, website and MMFS tools such as the MMFS sheep and wool cost of production calculator and content development for MMFS Pastoral. This suite of projects underpinned the operating costs of three industry forums Prime Time, Its Ewe Time and Pastoral Prime Time, held in the period 2006-2011, to deliver key MMFS principles and procedures to sheep producers. Each forum held up to 10 events across the sheep producing regions of Australia. Costs included audio-visual, forum advertising and promotion, venue, catering and logistics, speakers travel and on costs, speaker professional fees, forum communication, management, program management and communications. In addition, this suite of projects includes the program coordination costs for 2010-2013, and state coordination operating expenses for 2012-2013.
