Summary

In 2011 goat Research and development (R&D) funds were allocated for the purchase of two units of Infinium iSelectHD Custom Goat Beadchip from Illumina. The Beadchip was used in a small pilot study to SNP genotype 96 Australian goats sourced from rangeland and stud environments for a baseline survey of genetic diversity. This work was linked to projects B.GOA.0071: DNA Sample Coordination and Collection and B.GOA.0072: Evaluation of the Genetic Basis of Horns in Australian Goats. The purpose of the work was to provide new information concerning the genetic basis of polledness in Australian goats and its relationship to observed cases of intersex syndrome associate with polledness and the options for developing a predictive diagnostic test for the industry.
