Summary
To assist consumers to cook steak to a specific doneness, MLA developed an iPhone app.
This app allows the user to input the type of cut, thickness and desired level of doneness and the app has a timer to tell the user when the steak should be turned, removed from heat, rested and then ready to serve.
To develop the app it was necessary to collect data on different meat cuts and thickness as well as cooking times by different methods. Sensory Solutions conducted testing and data collection for the steak cooking times to input into the app calculator.
The iPhone app, called Beef Essentials, is now available to download from iTunes.
