Summary

A review of the Livestock Export Research, Development and Extension (RD&E) program was carried out to ensure that research priorities were aligned with industry expectations, and pathways were available to encourage increased stakeholder engagement.

Changes to the program in response to the recommendations are currently being implemented. This has included the appointment of an independent chairperson on the Livestock Export Research and Development Advisory Committee (LERDAC).

Objectives

The primary objectives of this project are to:

  • Implement recommended changes provided by the review around investment management and prioritisation of research.
  • Provide support the implementation of a new RD&E governance system and processes including regular review of progress and outcomes of the program.
  • Employ an interim independent chairperson to guide changes to the program.

Benefits to industry

An effective and responsive research program that can prioritise projects and proposal across its portfolio will ensure that existing research and knowledge can be utilised and future research is streamlined.

The new systems and processes will improve administrative efficiencies and instil a culture of strategic research that aligns with industry’s priorities and needs.
