Summary

Integrity Systems Company (ISC) have embarked on a journey to migrate Meat and Livestock Australia's workloads into Amazon Web Services (AWS) as part of an ongoing strategy of digital transformation.

Objectives

The purpose of this project was to:

  • complete a migration of all ISC Production and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) environments to the AWS platform
  • plan and build of all production and UAT related environments, accounts and infrastructure including:
    • National Livestock Identification System (NLIS)
    • Electronic National Vendor Declaration (eNVD)
    • Livestock Data Link (LDL)
    • Single Sign On (SSO)
  • deliver configuration and access documentation for the AWS infrastructure and account structure
  • set up and configuration of CloudWatch activations and alerts as defined during design
  • network and infrastructure optimization to support performance requirements.

Key findings

The ISC data was succesfully transfered to the AWS platform, which has resulted in:

  • better and faster response time
  • a system that is scalable for future growth
  • a significantly higher security standard.

Benefits to industry

The AWS platform provides:

  • better and faster response time
    • positive user feedback from ISC business and customer service calls
    • large data processing jobs once taking 6-8 hours, now down to 20 minutes or less
  • a significantly higher security standard
  • more reliatbility with High Availability Architecture
    • this is a technology design which allows our applications and databases to be replicated across multiple data centres so that we can survive a total loss of any one data centre without user impact.
  • Scalable for future growth
    • now no longer relying on any large capital assets, we can almost instantly scale up and down based upon capacity or performance needs, with much more granular control over cost.
