E-learning for NLIS implementation in meat processing
The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) is Australia's system for identifying and tracking livestock for food safety, biosecurity, market access and industry-related purposes. At the start of this project, NLIS had implemented schemes into the cattle, sheep and goat industries. The pig industry was also developing a national identification and traceability system.
The purpose of this project was firstly to develop systematic training programs for meat processing sector staff interacting with the NLIS that will allow processors to enhance consistency and repeatability in application, verification and reporting of NLIS for slaughter activities nationally. Secondly, to support the development of documented standard operating procedures and guidelines to assist abattoir staff in meeting their NLIS requirements.
