A Value Chain approach to improving animal health performance (Stage 1)

The purpose of this project was to collect animal health information and use this information to better engage with producers to improve product quality and value. The cost of downgraded product from unhealthy sheep affects all sectors of the red meat industry. Not only does minimising disease and improving welfare maximise the value of the sheep when slaughtered. It will also improve the producers performance on farm. The project was going to collect and analysis individual animal data for sheep processed at Abattoir A and B over a 6 month period. A data set of this size is of enormous benefit to not only the supply chain but also to industry partners. This project was also going to develop the baseline measurements across a number of different regions so that incidences of different conditions could be tracked and measured. This project was terminated after the first milestone.
