Primo Collaborative Innovation Strategies Partnership program

Primo's beef processing facility based in Scone began engaging with MLA in their Collaborative Innovation Strategies program (CISP) in August 2009.  During this time, over 50 projects were undertaken by the Primo innovation team.  12 of those projects are Australian red meat industry firsts, including:

  • An Australian first low temperature fully automated rendering plant, achieving $25,000 per month savings in butane costs

  • Development of an integrated farm management and cropping enterprise as a means of deriving revenue from an environmental waste water stream.  Significant stockfeed is now harvested. This is an example of creating an opportunity from a former cost.

  • A program of proactively managing soft tissue injuries has resulted in $85,000 pa reduction in workers compensation costs.
