Summary

Preferential access continues to support 89% of Australia’s red meat exports, providing an important buffer in an increasingly volatile, uncertain and competitive global trading environment. To help limit any deterioration, MLA prepared industry-endorsed submissions (lodged with the Australian Government) on a range of issues impacting exports to the USA, China, Korea, and Indonesia. Additional reform was progressed via the Australia–EU FTA negotiations, and while there were small gains, the outcome will see the maintenance of disproportionately low perpetual quotas.

Objectives

Industry positions/submissions (prepared by MLA) on trade defense/reform issues are acknowledged and acted on by Government and support trade facilitation.
