Five reasons to join GIRDAC
Prosperity of the Australian goat industry relies on continual innovation, investment and industry engagement.
No one has better industry understanding than grassroots producers. It is these voices that must be front and centre to ensure experience is captured and interests represented.
The Goat Industry Research, Development and Adoption Committee (GIRDAC) committee has two vacancies for harvested rangeland goat producers who are keen to offer advice and input on research priorities for industry-leading research, development and adoption (RD&A) projects.
GIRDAC representatives can:
1. Have a say on the future of the industry
From reviewing funding proposals to helping set strategic priorities, GIRDAC representatives play a critical role in deciding where resources go, and why.
Being directly involved in setting research priorities and making critical research development investment decisions is a hands-on way to help drive innovation, productivity and profitability in the sector.
2. Gain technical experience
Evaluating the technical and practical merit of project applications and providing feedback throughout their lifecycle is one of the core activities of GIRDAC representatives.
This provides an opportunity to ensure levy investments deliver meaningful, measurable outcomes for producers and the broader industry.
3. Expand your professional network
GIRDAC represents all corners of the industry. This includes producers, researchers, consultants, and representatives from the Goat Industry Council of Australia (GICA). This environment invites collaboration and strengthens professional networks across the industry.
4. Grow your leadership skills
GIRDAC provides a space to advance your leadership skills.
Outside of providing advice to Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) on goat industry investments, it’s an opportunity to participate and chair meetings, shape agendas and lead discussions.
5. Provide impactful, transparent outcomes
One of the key pillars of GIRDAC is strong governance, ensuring transparency and accountability. The input from GIRDAC representatives contributes to the due diligence undertaken for investments that lead to clear, impactful outcomes.
GIRDAC is more than a seat at the table, it is one of the key drivers to productivity and profitability improvement within the Australian goat industry.
MLA is currently seeking two harvested rangeland goat producer representatives to join GIRDAC for a maximum term of three years. Meetings are run on a quarterly basis, with one meeting in the year held in-person.
If you're passionate about the Australian goat industry, there’s no better place to make your voice heard than the GIRDAC committee.
