Stay up to date with NLIS and LPA

08 Sep 2025

As part of Australia's commitment to animal welfare, the Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) program was recently updated to include a new Animal Welfare Management Plan (AWMP)

For LPA-accredited producers, this update ensures Australia remains at the forefront of animal welfare and retains key international market access.

What does this mean?

The AWMP is reflective of industry best practice, aligned with the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Goats. Producers can develop custom plans to reflect their own business, using the tool to strengthen and demonstrate their alignment with the standards.

The time taken to complete the plan varies depending on the operation, but on average it takes 1020 minutes to complete.

The standards reflect scientific knowledge, community expectations and provide animal husbandry guidance. It covers feed and nutrition, risk management, facilities, and handling.

Developed in consultation with the Goat Industry Council of Australia (GICA), the Australian Industry Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Goats is available for download here.

The AWMP can be completed during accreditation, reaccreditation or on demand at any time. However, its completion within the LPA program will be an auditable requirement after 1 September 2025.

What else is happening in industry?

In August, Integrity Systems Company (ISC) hosted information webinars in partnership with the state and territory departments of agriculture. These were geared toward open discussions with anyone handling livestock and spanned a broad range of topics.
