Unlock new clients with Profitable Grazing Systems
Profitable Grazing Systems (PGS) is a group-based training program that uses supported learning packages to deliver training and coaching to improve producer skills and knowledge.
PGS is seeking coaches who can work with producers using existing supported learning packages or packages they develop themselves. Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) offers training in the delivery of these packages and will support coaches throughout.
Delivering PGS packages is a great way to increase your value as an advisor and reach new producer clients.

PGS packages available to deliver include:
The objective of the ‘Meat the market – sheep’ training package is to support producers to follow their lambs through the supply chain, from farm to the retail shelf, using the Livestock Data Link program. Producers will be upskilled in interpreting and managing the feedback through the process to make improvements on farm to lift the percentage of lambs meeting processor compliance.
Upon completion of this training package, participants will have the skills to:
- set up Livestock Data Link or a similar proprietary objective carcase feedback system and understand what the data and feedback mean
- understand essential terminology
- understand what goes on in meat processing and how measurements are taken
- identify the right genetics to improve compliance
- identify what the consumer wants in meat
- implement a plan to improve market compliance.
Phosphorus (P) deficiency is widespread across northern Australia. The objective of the ‘Phosphorus for profit – supplementation for peak cattle performance’ training package is to work with farm business managers to establish and examine benefits from supplementing P where deficiencies exist. Also looking at how it influences feed intake during the wet season and subsequent fertility, mortality, growth and profitability.
The package is designed for beef cattle producers in northern Australia who have P-deficient soils. They will develop skills, build on knowledge, improve confidence and increase adoption of P management of cattle and be motivated to:
- identify where productivity may be less than ideal for their property and how this might be related to a P deficiency
- take action based on the projected productivity and economic benefits of P supplementation.
The objective of the ‘Dry time ready – creating a climate-resilient feeding plan’ training package is to provide farm business managers with tools and skills to:
- identify the feed requirements for different classes of livestock to maintain their target condition scores and/or live weight changes and also the types of feed that are available to meet those requirements
- estimate the likely quantity of feed required and costs of the planned feeding regime
- conducta resource audit on the requirements to execute the plan.
Over the course of five sessions, producers will create a draft drought feeding plan. This will be reviewed by the group in the last session to identify areas for improvement. On completion of this course, the participants will have a drought feeding plan that can be reviewed each year.
